City-Yuwa Partners represents developers, lenders and investors in the wind, solar, geothermal, hydraulic, biomass and other clean energy technology sectors, and has built one of Japan’s leading renewable energy practices. The Firm has played a key role in assisting many European, Japanese and US based clients to successfully apply the technology, experience and know-how advantages they enjoy to the rapidly growing Japanese renewable energy market, especially after the start of the feed-in-tariff (FIT) for renewable energy under the “Act on Special Measures Concerning the Procurement of Renewable Energy by Electric Utilities,” which came into force in 2012.
City-Yuwa Partners’ renewable energy practice is comprised of a multidisciplinary group of lawyers with extensive experience in the development of renewable projects, including real estate, finance and cross-border transactions, and the firm routinely draws upon the experience of its members in the real estate, securitization, regulatory, environmental and litigation practices when handling such projects. City-Yuwa Partners applies a special understanding of the needs of companies expanding to Japan that makes establishing new ventures efficient and cost effective, and supports its clients with their business ventures across Japan. This in-depth renewable energy industry knowledge has given the firm an understanding of a range of issues that renewable energy and energy technology companies face involving due diligence, contracts (including agreements on power supply, engineering procurement, construction and land lease), commercializing technology, financing, environmental regulations, transmission, manufacturing and construction.
City-Yuwa Partners also supports clients on international joint development projects involving renewable energies which remain outside the scope of the FIT-system under current Japanese law but have great potential, such as wave activated power.
